Field Notes - December
Seasons Greetings,
Today feels like winter in the Louisiana. It’s cold and damp, and we turned on the fireplace. The boys are watching Home Alone (for the third time already), and I’m wondering where the sheets are that I use to cover my ferns. December has arrived.
Growing up, December was my very favorite month. But now, as a mom of five, I feel the weight of all the bluster and busyness it brings. Some years, I even find myself dreading it. But I so don’t want to….
This year, I hope to be more present to the promise of joy and peace that Christmas holds. I’d like to push back a little more on the cultural expectations of the season and relish the simple things - like my eight year old doing a pretty decent job spacing the ornaments. I can’t escape the pressures and responsibilities, but I can decide how I engage with them. I expect I’ll struggle, but I’m aiming for slower this year…even when everything feels a bit fast.
Speaking of ornaments….thank you to all who ordered. I consider it such a privilege that the things I create get to live in your homes.
All the boys played in the Turkey Bowl that our church put on. Locke scored a touchdown, and had his own “Rocky” moment when his team lifted him up to celebrate. So cute! Ryan’s hip still hasn’t recovered from the juking he did, but we are applying Bengay with regularity. I kid…but really, we aren’t as young as we once were.
Got a new driver in the family. Y’all know how to pray for me.
We hosted thanksgiving this year, and felt so grateful to have a warm home, plenty of food, and a great big family to share it with.
I have a few pieces in my studio that are not on my website. If you are interested in these blue matted pressed dollar weeds - email or dm me on instagram. The price is four for $300 or $75.00 each. The size is 11 x 14.
The pieces below are $95 each, size is 16 x 20.
This green beauty is still available, and she’s 20% off. The size is 37 x 25. Click the link if you are interested.
Wishing you and yours a slow and sacred Christmas season. I’ll leave you with a line from one of my very favorite Christmas carols -
“Come Thou Long Expected Jesus,
Born to Set Thy People Free.
From our Fears and Sins Release Us,
Let us find our Rest in Thee.”
Grace and Love,
Amy
